How long should a bath remodel project take?

TWO WEEKS! I’m kidding. Bath remodels typically can take as long as six weeks or more for a proper job, taking into account permitting and inspections. Some projects can take months. Many remodels we perform actually may not require an inspection thereby decreasing the time it takes by as long as a week.
‘Many companies advertise a “One day bath remodel”. While this may seem wonderful, I have doubts many if any actually are completed in one day. Of those that may be completed that quickly, I ask one question…”What did you leave out?” A shower to tub conversion may be completed in three or four days if a pre-made shower stall is used.

But if you’re spending $5,000-$10,000 to upgrade your bathroom, what is more important? The amount of time you’re inconvenienced, or the final results. I promise the final results will live with you many times longer than the inconvenience. Remodeling projects aren’t drive-by occurrences, They should be carefully planned and executed to produce the results you’ll be happy with for many years to come.

The picture above shows a job in progress. It took about three hours to remove the old shower unit. The next step is to replace the existing shower valve with a new one. After that we framed the floor to accommodate a zero-barrier shower pan. With the addition of framing the floor, this remodel lasted about 4 weeks.

Good results require time.

Here’s the same shower stall in a nearly finished state. This project had custom installed tiles which increased the time to completion considerably. If speed of the project is important, make material choices that allow for a quick job, such as a shower unit instead of custom tiles. Bear in mind that a short period of inconvenience, can mean a much better outcome that will not only meet your needs and be more appealing in the long run.
