We use Shluter KERDI BOARD waterproof wall panels for a substrate behind tiles. This is a watertight system. It protects the home from water leaks and potential water damage.
Shower Floors can be made of a shower pan- (again a Shluter product to maintain water tight seal of the shower system), or an acrylic shower pan.
Acrylic Shower Pans are a simple quick solution. The cost of these pans is less than using tiles or stone for the shower pan. The downside is the acrylic shower pans come in limited colors and sizes.
